Hi, I'm helping to build a text-based MUD (diku base) and could really use some coders with C++ knowledge. Drop me a line at my livejournal or else check out our mud; the address is outlandsmud.com 4000

thanks :)

Looks like someone wants to discourage the competition there. ;) I blame RetroMUD more for the current reduction in player base, with the caveat that it's probably bringing in some new players some of whom may get tired of it & branch out to other muds.

All I can say is "good luck" as I'm not much of a coder myself, particularly in C++, I could never get my head round it. Maybe the problem is more along the lines of too many MUDs & not enough coders, eh? ;) I've got a mud in planning that needs a lot of coding work before it goes live, but I'm inclined to write my own codebase in a language I can handle rather than persisting with the systems I've tried.

Well, that's pretty much what we are trying to do. Make it as unlike traditional diku mud as we can. THat's where all the recruitment comes in. The more people we get, the better we can change and rewrite spells, rewrite death code, come up with new ways to obtain skills and spells, new ways to level, etc.

Sorry I doubted you. :)

I'm not personally keen on changing the basic commands for the sake of it as I don't like learning whole new command sets, but other than that I take your point.

You know, I'm sure I've played something somewhere that actually required "walk north" style movement. :) That's going back a long way, I think it was some old text adventure.
